At the age of thirty-one, Neville Brody has been described as 'the most influential designer of the Eighties'. His innovations in graphic design have revolutionized the look of magazines, advertisements and packaging. Whether record sleeve or supermarket packaging, the products paraded for our admiration and consumption as often as not borrow ideas that first saw the light of day on a Brody sketch-pad. While the voracious media boom of the Eighties led others to adapt ideas from Brody's original design, few of his imitators have achieved the same resonance. Brody's work follows his belief in design to reveal, not to conceal. It embraces the dynamism directed by human forms - a challenge to today's ever-growing faith in technology. As such, his work is often experimental; part of a tradition that has its roots in the art movements of the early twentieth century, in particular Dadaism and Constructivism. *The Graphic Language of Neville Brody* collects together much of his output over the last decade, including his ground-breaking design and typography for the international style journal, *The Face*. The accompanying text features many direct quotes and observations on design theory and practice. With over 450 illustrations, this book provides a wide-ranging introduction to a crucial period in graphic design. It gives a first-hand account that will appeal to all those interested in the techniques of visual communication in an increasingly visual age.

Published as part of "Motion", an exhibition by Dutch artist and graphic designer Karel Martens at Kunstverein München, this book is the seventh instalment of the "Companion" series produced by the Kunstverein and Roma Publications. With concept and design by Julie Peeters, the greater part of the book's content is derived from the video "Not for Resale", a sequence of photographs of the array of images and objects found on the artist's studio wall, taken in 2000. Material from two other videos, "Lost & Found" (2004) and "Tol" (2008), is also included, along with a transcription of a conversation between Martens and Chris Fitzpatrick, director of the Kunstverein.

"Anatomy of ideas The life's work of an infographics pioneer Fritz Kahn (1888 - 1968) was a German doctor, educator, popular science writer, and information graphics pioneer. Chased out of Germany by the Nazis, who banned and burned his books, Kahn emigrated to Palestine, then France, and finally the United States to continue his life's work. In this revised Bibliotheca Universalis edition, TASCHEN celebrates Kahn as a creative genius, particularly adept at the visualization of complex scientific ideas. In such works as Man as Industrial Palace, we see how Kahn deployed vivid visual metaphors to demystify science and how his concepts have influenced generations of scientific illustrators, visual communications specialists, and infographic artists through to today. The book features more than 350 illustrations with extensive captions, three original texts by Fritz Kahn himself, a foreword by Steven Heller, and an essay about Kahn's life and oeuvre."--
